Gilgamesh is an archetypal story of the struggle between good and evil and the balance between nature and man, relevant for today in the context of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The two main characters are Gilgamesh, the young, privileged and all-powerful king, and Endiku, the noble savage in harmony with nature, is corrupted by society and becomes Gilgamesh’s ally. natural order versus . Gilgamesh wants to do whatever he likes; he lacks integration and harmony with nature and is brought up short by his limitations.The two main themes are the powerful bond of friendship and existential nature of man and the natural order in conflict witht the order imposed by man. In 2012 I was inspired to create this work after reading Yusef Komenyaka’s Gilgamesh: A Verse Play
